The Olew Method
Firstly, it is important to acknowledge that all hair is different. A one size fits all approach to haircare therefore makes little sense, so you need to be prepared to be patient, to experiment a little and to trust the process.
The results will come, and when they do, you'll be thankful you have followed a tried and tested method.
Your five step starter guide to the Olew Method
We've created this easy to follow starter guide to help you on your hairjourney. This guide is ideal for beginners as well as curlies looking for tried and tested method.
This will help you get the best out of the Olew range to embrace your natural hair!

Go heat free. Ditch those straighteners!
1.The key to starting your hairjourney successfully is to let your hair breathe. If you have become accustomed to using heat on your hair, this needs to stop for at least 30 days (you can diffuse your hair after this). First you should allow your hair to repair itself, before expecting your natural curls to form.
Moisture! Moisture! Moisture!
2.Your hair may be very thirsty from all the heat use and hair dyeing over the years. It's super important to begin to add hydrating products like our Olew Original and the Curl Cream to your soaking wet hair on wash days.
Your all important Wash Day routine:
Completely wet your hair, apply a reasonable amount, (I use a 50p sized squirt) of the Olew Cleansing Shampoo, concentrate and massage the shampoo into your scalp only for at least 60 seconds. I would recommend shampooing twice for best results. Then rinse thoroughly.
Add the Olew Clarifying Conditioner to the ends and wherever else your hair is prone to be dry (for example mine gets very dry towards the back and on top). Olew's Claryfing Conditioner will not make your hair greasy if your hair is dry and needs the nutrients. Leave in for 120 seconds.
Brush your hair while the Olew Clarifying Conditioner is left in. Do not brush your hair after this, as it disrupts the curl pattern formation. Then Rinse the Conditioner out.
Apply Olew Original Hair Oil to soaking wet hair (even if it is dripping wet this is the best time to apply). Depending on your hair type and volume, you should add between half a pipette's worth to 3.5 pipette (as a rough guide I use 1.5 pipette's worth). Add the Olew Original to your palms, rub your hands together and apply to your ends, working all the way up to your roots and scalp.
While your hair is still wet, apply a 50p sized dollop of Olew's Curl Cream to your palms and rake through your hair. Apply a tiny bit more Curl Cream and keep scrunching into your hair while any water drains. Repeat this all over your hair.
Apply a 50p sized dollop of the Olew Curl Defining Gel on to your palms, then gently hold a handful of your hair in your palm and scrunch in the gel, carefully repeat this scrunching motion all over your hair. Then gently smooth any remaining gel residue over your hair. 🐣
Grab a cotton t-shirt and gently scrunch your hair to remove excess water. Then use your t-shirt as a hair wrap and leave for 20 mins. Then allow to air dry.
Wash Less!
3.Curly hair doesn’t really like to be too clean!! I know, you've just done your wash day routine but this will take some getting used to. As the days go by your hair and curls/waves will begin to look more defined. Especially after adding some water for moisture and the Olew Original and the Curl Cream.
Refreshing: I’ll let you in on a secret, I go without washing my hair for around 7-10 days! If this is your first time trying this or if you are used to washing your hair every day, you can start by not washing for 3 days.
Instead just add a little water and Olew Original to your hair. Remember curly hair helps disguise your roots, so even if you think your hair is a little greasy nobody else can see!!
Find the right products and know how to apply them!
4.Each Olew product is designed to work in combination with the whole product range. So for the best and most consistent results, we recommend using all of the products on your hairjourney - see Step 2.
Quite often, we are approached by our fellow Curlies who are frustrated at not being able to maintain their restored curls. Usually this is the result of combining different products, such as a cheaper shampoo or conditioner and expecting to see the same consistent results. These products may contain sulphates or other chemicals, which cover your hair and leave a filmlike coating which makes it difficult for moisture to be absorbed.
What makes the Olew product range special is our recipe of natural ingredients, that are carefully curated. by a Curly for Curlies. We work together with a top chartered chemist to make sure all our products are not only free of paraben, sulphates and other nasty chemicals, but are also not tested on animals and are suitable for vegans. All of them are Made in United Kingdom too.
Have a little patience!
5.Rome wasn't built in a day! Neither will those glorious natural curls magically spring back to life overnight but with a little patience and consistency, (just like the gym). You will see the results.
